Mugena Enterprises Incorporated will continue to encourage members of the black community in the Ottawa-Gatineau area to acquire and operate their own community centre. Our experience in operating the Mugena Caribbean restaurant at 911A Richmond Road for 20 years revealed that the community needs a watering hole where people can gather from time to time to drink from our rich diversity in culture, food, education and life experiences. For this to be sustainable the community needs to become its own landlord. Anything short of that perpetuates the continuous severe financial leakage from the community.
We will also continue to encourage small enterprise development in the community and try to extend this desire into a sharing partnership with similar efforts in the developing countries. Our work with cooperatives and social enterprises run by women and the youth in developing countries will be enhanced by creating export opportunities for the products they produce.
We also plan to create a mechanism of sharing Canadian expertise in small enterprise development with our numerous countries of origin.
